Cuba’s (Rocky) Love Affair with the Harley-Davidson by TIME

Cubans are not the only Latinos who love Harley-Davidson bikes, the rest of us are just as guilty as our Cuban brothers and sisters for loving these babies too!

LOVE: Causa Peruana
- by admin
Latinos LOVE Causa Peruana. This dish puts the “Y” in yummy!!! Love it. It is made with potatoes, peppers, onions, eggs, and additional ingredients (recipe found here) that make it so scrumptious. Went out today with some dear friends of mine to a Peruvian restaurant and we had a feast. No wonder it is called “causa” it gives you a cause to eat it. One just can’t have enough of it. We love Peruvian food. It is delicious!
LOVE: Stuffed animals in the back car window
- by admin
Latinos LOVE putting stuffed animals on top of the dashboard of the back car window. I hate when people do this. My mom followed this car trend when I was a little girl. I was not the typical child. I hate stuffed animals and seeing my mom do this always irked me. One time, they broke her car window, took the extra change she left in the car, and stole all of her stuffed animals. YES my people, there is a teddy bear bandit on the loose. BEWARE. My mom swore it was because she had the cutest stuffed animals ever, and although I felt bad she had to get a new window, I was glad she learned her lesson and never EVER put another stuffed animal in her car again. It is true, there is some good in every bad.

We feel honored that the NY Times has mentioned TLLOH. It is a well written article on “fajas” by such an excellent writer and amazing journalist, Sarah Maslin Nir. TLLOH’s mission is to continue to concentrate on the positive things about our people, customs, and culture.
LOVE: Hula Hoops
- by admin
The internet generation doesn’t know what they are missing out on! Latinos LOVE hula hoops. Do you know why? Because that’s what many of us grew up on. We played with them and stood fit while we were at it. You see, there is fun in burning calories. Those were the good old days!
UPDATE: My cousin Rosa came today to boast that she could hula hoop with the hoop around her neck, legs, and waist! Show-off! *lol* Gotta love her!
LOVE: Antique Cars
- by admin
Latinos LOVE cars and antique cars are not an exception. What I don’t quite comprehend are people who own antique cars, they invest lots of money maintaining it, and then take it for a spin ONCE a year. That’s like me buying a $57,000 dress and wearing it once in a lifetime. However, boys will be boys. Oh, and I am not being bias, some women love antique cars too. I’m still saving for my 1959 Pink Cadillac Convertible.
LOVE: Batata Frita (Boniato o Camote)
- by admin
Latinos LOVE Batata. Batata is also known as Boniato or Camote. It is a type of sweet potato with a sugary flavor taste that all one has to do is bake or fry it to eat it. Just enjoy it with a cup of coffee and you are set!
LOVE: Body Language
- by admin
When I say Latinos love body language, I mean it in the most literal sense ever. I recall my cousin telling me a terrible story about a man kicking a dog and killing it or something to that extent. The thing is she just didn’t tell me, she acted out the entire scenario, “And then he went like this (her facial expressions changing as she retold the story) and he just kicked the poor puppy!” She then gave a high kick in the air that almost landed her foot on my chin. She’s quite dangerous when recounting the news. That is the thing with Latinos, we just cannot tell a story, we also provide a reenactment, as we speak with our hands and touch you. In all fairness to us, we keep you entertained and interested. And if you missed the news, no problem. Cousin Carla will relive it just for YOU. Latinos give a whole new meaning to the definition of body language. So there you have it. Don’t underestimate the potential of a Latino or their ability to animate storytelling in the most impressive manner ever.

LOVE: Shortening Words
- by admin
I am sure these things don’t happen in my family only. My dear father does not speak “perfect English” and every time you serve him a drink, or if he had his hands full and needed someone to hold the door for him, instead of saying “Hold it” he says, “Holedt, Holedt, Holedt!”
Love my family!
