Frida Kahlo is one of Mexico's most loved artists. Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter born as Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón on July 6, 1907. Kahlo created many self-portraits, stating, "I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best." Kahlo's art was also influenced by the Mexican culture. She didn't conform to society. She lived life her way. Due to an accident she was in at age 18, Kahlo suffered severe fractures that led to serious health problems. As a result, she was unable to conceive. She married Diego Rivera, a famous Mexican artist whom she admired. Kahlo was twenty years younger than Rivera. She often had affairs with both women (Josephine Baker) and men (Isamu Noguchi). Rivera was aware of it, but never stopped loving her. In 1952, her right lower leg was amputated after getting gangrene. On July 13, 1954, she passed away. Since no autopsy was done the cause of death is unknown. She was 47 years old at the time of her death. Prior to dying she wrote in her diary, "I hope the exit is joyful — and I hope never to return — Frida." She was cremated as per her wish.
