Loud Music: You would think Latinos are deaf because we absolutely, completely, in its entirety REFUSE to listen to music unless it is on high volume. In our cars, at our house, BBQ parties, etc. No wonder why people aren't too happy to have Latino neighbors! Don't blame us for being the LIFE of the party. The bad thing about this is how we assume EVERYONE likes our music, from Merengue to Bachata, but not quite.
I never realized how rude this was until I stopped at a light next to a car where this guy had his heavy metal music on on full blast, and I gave him a look of disgust (I'm very eclectic, but heavy metal is just, well, uh, a little too heavy for me). That's when the light bulb went on in my head and I thought, "Hmmm, maybe not everybody likes Salsa music" *hard to believe, but there is a possibility*.
And now, I don't do it as often. I still listen to loud music most of the time, but try to be sensitive to my surroundings. Sometimes, I even put up my car windows or lower the bass (especially when a cop is around).
